Jennifer Alexander, LCSW, LADC
I am dually licensed in the state of Maine as a Clinical Social Worker and Alcohol and Drug Counselor. I completed my education at the University of Southern Maine, earning a bachelor’s degree in philosophy (2009) and a master’s degree in social work (2013). I have 18 years of experience working in southern and central Maine with diverse child, adolescent, adult, and family populations across academic, community mental health, home based, residential service, and health care settings, including supporting the behavioral health needs of clients receiving medication assisted treatment for substance use disorders. I identify as a LBGTQIA supportive clinician and am familiar with WPATH guidelines for standards of care for the health and gender affirming treatment of transsexual, transgender, and individuals who identify across the gender spectrum. I practice using a strength based, solution focused, and culturally sensitive lens.
Clients describe me as a direct, efficient therapist that helps them feel heard and empowered to create positive change. I work collaboratively to create clear treatment goals and provide practical skills for addressing identified areas of growth and challenges using evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I am familiar with treating anxiety and trauma related disorders, mood disorders, supporting acute or life phase adjustment, challenges related to management of ADHD, and addressing problematic substance use in an outpatient setting.
